How the family mediation process works:

If mediation is new to you, here’s what the process usually looks like at Melbourne Conflict Solutions, from your first confidential appointment through to a documented outcome.

You each meet individually with the mediator to talk about your situation, what’s important to you, and whether mediation is the right next step. The mediator also considers safety and ensures the process will be appropriate and supportive for everyone involved.

If mediation is suitable, the mediator will confirm next steps and arrange the session in a format that best fits your circumstances.

This might mean meeting together in the same room, in separate spaces, or online — whatever works best and ensures the safety of all participants.

In the mediation session, the mediator provides a safe, structured environment to help you identify the issues, explore options, and work towards practical agreements about parenting, property, or finances.

You may need one or more sessions, depending on your circumstances.

The mediator will document the outcomes in writing. This may include a record of agreements, a parenting plan, or a Section 60I certificate if appropriate.
